When Mia Amabile said “yes” to her fiancé after he got down on one knee, she was also saying yes to his loving family.
After what she describes as the couple’s “perfectly imperfect proposal,” Amabile received a touching text from her fiancé Alex’s dad, Doug, that showed his unwavering support.
The text has since gone viral on TikTok after Amabile shared it to the platform, calling the message her “roman empire.”

Commenters were quick to swoon over the emotional message, with one saying that Doug should “teach a seminar on how to be an in-law,” but for Amabile, this gesture was par for the course.
“He always says the most beautiful things about his family and friends and will be the first person to tell you how much he loves and appreciates you,” she tells PEOPLE of her future father-in-law. “This text was no surprise for me because I’m so used to his ways but regardless I still cried many happy tears.”
Amabile says her connection to her fiancé’s family goes beyond just his dad and extends to his sister and mom as well.

“I completely lucked out with my future in-laws,” Amabile explains. “They are such a beautiful family that welcomed me with open arms. I am so close to my sister-in-law, Sabrina, and am so fortunate to be able to have her as a sister and friend. My mother-in-law, Nina, and father-in-law, Doug, treat me as if I was one of their biological children, they are so beyond good to me and I am so thankful for them.”
“Nina and Doug are the absolute best role models and I hope that Alex and I have a partnership like them,” she adds.
Before the couple was even engaged, Amabile says they knew Doug would play a big role in their nuptials and decided to ask him to officiate the ceremony. Though the decision had been made long before, they broke the news to him Christmas morning, where there “was not a dry eye in the room.”
“Fathers of the groom aren’t always recognized at weddings,” Amabile says. “So I’m really happy that he will have this opportunity at ours.”
