During the2024 SAG Awards, the Screen Actors Guild took a moment to remember the stars who died in the last year.
The In Memoriam montage at the Saturday ceremony included celebrities likeMatthew Perry,Tina Turner,Chita Rivera,Angus Cloud,Andre Braugher,Lance Reddick,Ron Cephas Jones,Christian Oliverand more.
Naomi Wattsopened the segment as she shared a touching message to the dozens of actors that were lost over the last year.
“We have lost so many extraordinary actors in the past year, but because they touched the world with their talent, we all share their loss. To those of us who worked with them, alongside them, we feel their loss and their absence deeply,” Watts, 55, said.
“Of course their memory will live on in our recollections of the precious time we shared together — and through their work, their performances captured in countless frames of images, ever ready to dance across the screen and come to life again, if only for a while.”

Prior to his death, Perry was vocal about his struggles with addiction.In a 2022 cover story, the star said that he wanted to be “away from the active disease of alcoholism and addiction” before penning his memoirFriends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.

On May 24, Turner, the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, died peacefully in her home at age 83. Her publicist Bernard Doherty confirmed to PEOPLE that the music legend and actress died in her home near Zurich, Switzerland, after a “long illness.”
Tributes to the starpoured infrom across the entertainment industry. “To me, she will always be a survivor and an inspiration to women everywhere. Her music will continue to inspire generations to come. Rest in Peace, Queen ❤️,” wrote singerMariah CareyonInstagram.
The “Proud Mary” singer andMad Max Beyond Thunderdomestar became an icon of the late 20th century before retiring from the music industry in 2008. She lived the rest of her life in private, moving to Switzerland with her husbandErwin Bach.

Tony Awardwinner Rivera died on Jan. 30 in New York after a brief illness. “It is with immense personal sorrow that I announce the death of the beloved Broadway icon Chita Rivera. My dear friend of over 40 years was 91,” shared her rep Merle Frimark in a statement.
Over her seven decades of theater credits, she won two Tonys for best actress. Former PresidentBarack Obamaawarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009, and she was also a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honor.
Euphoriaactor Clouddied on July 31in his Oakland, Calif., home. Cloud, who starred as Fezco in the hit HBO series, died a week after burying his late father.

The statement continued, “Angus was open about his battle with mental health and we hope that his passing can be a reminder to others that they are not alone and should not fight this on their own in silence.”
