This sweet, 4-year-old pooch lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, with her family. Car rides and beach time are some of her favorite things.
The more than 10,000 entries to the contest were narrowed down to 10 finalists, who then went through a voting phase to find a top three. These three went through a judging phase.Penny was chosen from this amazing pack, which was made up of adorable rescue dogs from all across the country.

Her owners Anne Noel Occhialino and Jonathan Gannon and their daughters Kate, 12, and Nora, 10, constantly shower the pooch with affection.Penny does her part to help the family too, teaching everyone compassion and empathy. The canine also accompanies Kate, who has type 1 diabetes, on her morning walks to help her stay healthy and happy.

A NEW START

As part of Penny’s grand prize, Kyra’s Rescue will recieve a $1,000 donation. Penny also won a one-year supply of dog food from Pedigree, a PEOPLE magazine photo shoot and an appearance on theTodayshow.

He is a Labrador retreiver mix born with permanently bent front limbs that prevent him from walking on all four paws. But he doesn’t let this difference slow him down. The Janesville, Wisconsin, dog and his owner JoLynn Burden regularly take part in education outreach programs at schools, teaching the next generation of pet owners the importance of animal adoption.

Rex is one of two runner-up dogs to make the top three. He is a Labrador retreiver mix born with permanently bent front limbs that prevent him from walking on all four paws. But he doesn’t let this difference slow him down. The Janesville, Wisconsin, dog and his owner JoLynn Burden regularly take part in education outreach programs at schools, teaching the next generation of pet owners the importance of animal adoption.
