Life has come full circle for Jeremiah Brent.
After selling theirbeloved Fifth Avenue homein 2016 to move to Los Angeles, the couple (who are parents todaughter Poppy, 9, and son Oskar, 5) bought back their"forever home" in 2021.
“It’s a big deal. Listen, I’m 13 years younger and I had just started [my career] when we met. Mydesign firm was a complete mess, I was taking on any project I could,” Brent, 39, recalls. “But I’ve always stayed the course in wanting to make sure that I really carved out my own existence within ours as a family, andNate’s always been the best supporter.”
When they moved back in to the N.Y.C. penthouse, “I had a great moment of pride because there was a moment that he looked at me and said, ‘We couldn’t do this without you now.’ And that was a nice moment, knowing that where we are at in this season of our life, not only were we equal, but we were coming back in this big way because of all of that work,” adds Brent. “It feels good to look around at a house and see our past and our present and hopefully our future.”
Brent further details his family’s journey with the New York City home in his new book, which he wrote throughout the process of buying back the property.
“Most people let go, but this house for us was so much more than just a home. It was a symbol of a specific time in our life, not only professionally … but I remember sitting in that house and imagining this big life together, whether it was children or writing vows for our wedding or dinner parties,” he says. “The house had seen ussurvive so much tragedyas well, so there’s all those echoes in there.”
Brent and Berkus, 52, will be celebrating their 10-year wedding anniversary in May, and the couple is stronger than ever as they gear up to mark the milestone.

“I don’t know what works for everybody else, but I do know what works for us is we are each other’s biggest cheerleader. We’re in the same industry, and it could, for a lot of people, be really complicated,” says Brent. “But we’ve always supported each other. We also stay out of each other’s way. And we really just like each other.”
InThe Space That Keeps YouBrent also gives fans a look at their peaceful Portugal farm home, where they’ve put down roots over the last couple years.
“The interaction with that farm is all about nurturing. We’ve got 30 sheep, four peacocks. We’re not interesting people there, and the sense of purpose is really lovely,” says Brent. “I gave my mother a home on the property and she’s living there now. We spend the summer out there, and our children love it. They don’t wear shoes for 30 days!”
While Brent is taking stock of everything he’s built personally and professionally over the last decade, he still hasn’t lost his sense of hustle.

“I’m open to anything. I love those boys. I’m friends with them, and I’ve got a lot of respect for what the show does and what it represents,” says Brent. “It’s what matters most to me about design, so you never know. I’m open to anything that life presents.”
