Actually , I ’ll tell you how : The promotional material for the Warcraft movie has been atrocious . But that should n’t take away the fact that these gifs made by a Polish Warcraft buff are fairly great .
The fan , who goes byQuass on Twitter , has been posting tasteful slight gifs that compare the locations shown in the moving-picture show to where they are on the maps of World of Warcraft :

It ’s a dewy-eyed but effective idea . Sure , it ’s catering to fans of the game who are plausibly already perish to see the movie , rather than the new audience Warcraft will need if it ’s become to make any money , but it ’s also advertising that shit horse sense .
This military campaign ground the moving-picture show as a world of fantasy . It has a unified aesthetic that matches the tonus of the franchise . It ’s about selling the world this movie is correct in , as a place you want to see more of , and get lost in . It reminds me almost of Lord of the Rings , where you ’d get snap of Tolkien ’s lifelike map fade out to the literal location , fantasy being brought to life .
equate that to the hot messes theWarcraft Movie twitter accounthas been lay out :

They look awful , and the splash quotes haphazardly pasted over them are about as generic and tonally unresolved as you could get .
These come on the dog of those recent , terribly edited trailers with cheesy rock guitar soundtrack — which instead of focusing on the background of the earthly concern this movie takes place in , like the first preview did , just repeat the same clichéd “ We must save the kingdom ! ” product line from Travis Fimmel ’s fiber like it ’s the better moment in the film , over and over .
It ’s pretty well-defined Legendary has little idea of how to show Warcraft to an hearing beyond World of Warcraft fans who would already go and see the movie . Which is why you end up with hackneyed MMORPG jokes that literally no one other than the citizenry that would hate this variety of affair would get as ‘ ad ’ rather :

( Side stripe for those unfamiliar — i.e. the vast absolute majority of the audience go to see this film—“Aggro ” , or “ threat ” , is a concept in video games base on how much attention an enemy pays to you in combat . In a game like World of Warcraft , characters designated as the “ armoured combat vehicle ” generate threat so enemies hit them rather than a squishy character like a healer . The more you know ! )
Just like the television game , right ? So cool ! They deleted that from their social metier account . Hopefully out of superfluity .
I am admittedly an unabashed rooter of Warcraft , so I ’d like the movie to not be as terrible as every other video game version out there . But Legendary ’s approach to selling the moving-picture show is n’t exactly instilling me with much hope . It does n’t seem to be instilling Warcraft director Duncan Jones with much hope either , who ’s been rather unfastened with his distaste for the movie ’s merchandising so far :

@kelson1988I do n’t know .

@notjforget@warcraftmovie*shrugs * merchandising is a hell of a thing …

— Duncan Jones ( @ManMadeMoon)March 19 , 2016
In fact , I only get wind about those fan made small promos from Jones ’ bill , who ’s been retweeting them on Twitter … while tellingly not retweeting much of the content from the prescribed Warcraft explanation .
It should n’t be this hard to advertise a moving picture aboutmagic and space orcsandpeople stand out onto giant hiss - lions to go stab said space orcs in the face — even if it is n’t a great movie overall , because it ’s still got easily marketable stuff and nonsense like people jumping onto gargantuan bird - Leo to go stab space orcs in the face . It really should n’t .
