On last nighttime ’s Supernatural , our monster of the week was a hag who withstand all arithmetic mean about what witchiness should be . And Dean learned all about why cheeseburger cause acid reflux .
In “ The Curious Case of Dean Winchester , ” we took a little roundabout way around the apocalypse to inflict a townsfolk where untried people are enigmatically pop off of old age . Bobby grouse over the phone that he ’s whole useless in his chair , and commit the Winchester son to enquire what might be do the difficulty . Turns out it ’s a cute , Irish crone name Patrick who is really more of a con artist than a reference of infinite evil . He hold out around finding marks and using his conjuration to steal their cars or watches . Of of course Dean risks everything to serve Bobby get back those lost age , wager 50 of his own age in a game with Patrick and giving 25 of them to Bobby flop off the bat . So Bobby ’s midway old age is restitute , but Dean pull off to lose everything and emerge 50 years older , as a very grumpy older humans with nerve problems ( from all those cheeseburger ) . There are some funny import of Bobby and Dean grousing at each other , and the worker ( Chad Everett ) who bet mature Dean does a great job , but there were unquestionably a few second where the humor / cataclysm admixture capture a niggling jerky and inept .

Anyway , so even though everybody kind of likes Patrick , they still have to stop him . Especially because Dean is trapped in an maturate body that make him bubble a luck . So Sam tries to distract Patrick with a game of Texas Holdem , while the crabbed old world do the reversal go . Unfortunately , the item they snag with Patrick ’s DNA on it is n’t the ripe one – the Wiccan has visualize out their plan , and their spell fizzles . Luckily , however , Sam turn out to be a weirdly good risk taker and does a bunch of great bluff that allow him to garner back Dean ’s geezerhood just as Older Dean is about to keel over from Warren Earl Burger - cause death .
Then we get a bit with the nice hag , where Patrick ’s girl concede that she ca n’t stand survive perpetually – she ’s watch out her daughter grow old and pop off , and she ca n’t take it anymore . Her seemingly - lawful urge to die is contrasted with Bobby ’s as the episode ends . The beldame plays a deliberately losing hand with her lover , thanking him for take all her years away , and expire gracefully . Meanwhile , Bobby confesses to Dean that his life is worthless , he might as well pall , and he ’s no longer a huntsman .
For once , Dean get to babble sense into Bobby ( usually it ’s the other way around ) . “ Being old ai n’t no knight bachelor party , ” he suppose . “ But you do n’t halt being a soldier just because you ’re wounded . ” We ’re left with the sentience that sometimes when citizenry want to die , it ’s a legitimate wish that should be granted . ( If , for example , you ’re a witch who has already outlast her natural clock time on Earth . ) But Bobby ’s like to pop off is n’t lawful at all . Not only does he have many years ahead of him , but he ’s still urgently needed in the dark times forward . In fact , his bitching about the chair is just that – bitching . And he demand to get over it . Hopefully , at last , he will .
