Meet Sepideh Hooshyar , a provincial Iranian adolescent girl who dreams of becoming an astronaut . As a vernal woman in a button-down Muslim culture that disapproves of such pursuits , Sepideh spends her day studying uranology and her nights watching the stars . This documentary chronicle her quest to dream adult .
Sepideh lives in Sa’adat Shahr , a town in the state of Fars . She made a promise to her father , who tragically died a few year ago , that she would pursue her ambition at whatever cost . However , her family is poor and her quest of astronomy , instead of working the house farm , is blamed in part for their financial tough luck . So , she spend her days at the local observatory , “ still just half - make after 20 eld , ” and her night stargazing .
With pressing mounting on her to give up her dreams , Sepideh determine to reach out to her matinee idol , Anousheh Ansari , the humankind ’s first distaff space tourist , to ask for assistant .
