Doug Liman intend he knows why Warner Bros. picked him to direct the Justice League Dark movie , a.k.a . Dark Universe : because there was no opportunity of him turning in a movie that looked like anyone else ’s .
Speaking withIGN , Liman lecture a little turn about Edge of Tomorrow 2 ( still happening ! It will “ revolutionize how people make sequels . It really will . ” ) and a lot about how he wants to make the Justice League Dark film .
Specifically , Liman gave a pretty recollective resolution to the interrogative sentence , “ Are you excited about working on Dark Universe ? ”

Yeah , I have in mind first of all , I love those characters , and I make love Warner Bros. , and I love [ manufacturer ] Scott Rudin , and it ’s — and you know , I get asked to come in and do things that are “ unconventional . ” If people require conventional , they do n’t follow to me . It ’s why doing Invisible was like right up my bowling alley — because how can you be conventional when there are n’t even conventions that exist ? And so you know when Warner Bros. wants to sort of change state the funny Bible musical style on its psyche , they call me .
Liman ’s really , really sure-footed that Warner Bros. is conk to rent him make the freaky , trippy motion-picture show that a Justice League Dark pic needs to be . fundamentally , he ’s arguing that he would n’t have stick the chore unless that ’s what the studio apartment want . And , oh my god , do we trust he ’s right about that . Of course , there was probably a peak where David Ayer thought something similar about Suicide Squad . Prove you ’ve really changed , Warner Bros.
Liman added that he ’s always pushed to be less conventional in his movie because of his repute , after being asked if “ turning the comic book genre on its nous ” was the goal of Dark Universe :

Yeah . It ’s like how do you basically reinvent what mass are doing ? And that ’s the goodness and the bad news of this variety of box I ’ve been put in . I mean , you ’d call up it was by pattern , but it was n’t . It is exactly what I should be doing , but I ’m just so thankful that — you have it off sometimes I ’m working on a projection and I pitch an idea that ’s too ceremonious , and the producers will say back to me “ That ’s not Doug Liman enough . ” Which is like a weird thing , because I ’m like “ Well that — it was my melodic theme ! How can you say it ’s not me ? ” And they ’re like “ No , because when we think of you , we call up of like , you know — that just seems too average . ”
So even if I require to be a little snatch more conventional , like , the system does n’t want me to be .
Liman say that he sometimes decides to make certain trope off - limits for a movie — like refusing to make the third bit of Bourne Identity about a womanhood being in danger — and that he has “ some ” rules like that for Dark Universe . But he did n’t specify which one he ’s invalidate .

Could it be the way the big confrontation to these film always necessitate massive death and property devastation ? Or how about having as many baddie as you’re able to cram into a small-arm ? The giant motivational speech ? The team all detest each other but becoming a family through hardship ? What “ principle ” could he be prevent the moving-picture show from follow ?
And , more importantly , how far will Warner Bros. really allow him go with that ?
