Cloak & Dagger ’s first seasonfeatured a grand , but predictable , comic book - y plot , but the tangible tie of the show was the attentive characterization that follow from the clip the serial spent focusing on Tyrone and Tandy ’s lives as “ regular ” young citizenry . Despite their racial divergence and disparate economic position , they were both struggling to find their way through a world trying to sustain them back .
flesh out Tyrone ( Aubrey Joseph ) and Tandy ’s ( Olivia Holt ) humanity made their eventual bend to straight - up superheroism that much more interesting , and inthe show ’s second time of year , Cloak & Dagger ’s rot no time in getting right back into their former days of pick up to work together as a squad .
It really ca n’t be overstated how Tyrone and Tandy save New Orleans from being destroyed by the Roxxon Corporation was the least interesting part of Cloak & Dagger ’s first time of year . It was the kind of closing of events that you expect from a show about teen superheroes , but the more personal , human spark Cloak & Dagger focus on give its lead a surprising astuteness .

After being framed for obliterate a law officer , Tyrone ’s now hiding in the abandoned Christian church where Tandy once squatted , and following a rapprochement with her female parent , Tandy ’s moved back home in an endeavor to have something closer to a normal life . On their own , and in dissimilar way , each of them has found a way of life to develop a better grasp of what their abilities are and how to utilize them , which is a sharp direct contrast to the ways in which they ’re both now living in position that keep them feeling off Libra .
Though Tandy loves her female parent and being able to get back into concert dance , something about “ normal ” life makes her long for the days when she could be fully free to roam on her own and take things as she needed them . It ’s not that she does n’t translate the structured nature of society or is even in full uncomfortable with it , but she ca n’t assist but abut up against those second where try on to come after by pushing demarcation line is lower upon by others .

In contrast , Tyrone longs for the society and dependableness that holds the outside world together , because , in an ideal world , that order would result in his exoneration and have him return to his friends and crime syndicate . Despite their reasons and feelings get along from different position , both teen trade with them in precisely the room any young metahumans would : They go out look to get into some vigilante trouble . But in doing so , they both learn that emotionally welt out with their powers under the auspice of doling out justice does n’t always end well for people .
In the season two premiere , Tyrone ends up almost being killed while robbing a drug house to provide evidence to the police force , and Tandy inadvertently name the life of an emotionally abused woman more complicated and unmanageable when she tries to get involved . Initially , neither of them is open with the other about their adulterous action , and teach the truth hurts them both because , on some level , they understand they ’re far well off as a team . It ’s the form of actualisation that any good group of superpowered supporter police for crime would come to finally , but with Cloak & Dagger it feels much more like anotherreworking of Tyrone and Tandy ’s dynamic in Marvel ’s comic strip , which was inculcate with problematical racial overtones .
Rather than framing Tyrone as the shape of addictive darkness who relies on Tandy ’s light to stave in off his internal demon , Cloak & Dagger ’s second time of year opens up with the idea that both tike are dealing with the legal injury that can amount from pulling too inward on yourself — or losing complete control and act out without thinking .

But Cloak & Dagger is still a Freeform cape show , which means that it ’s get to spend at least some meter set up this season ’s larger scoundrel conflict , and the first episode does it carefully with the return of investigator Brigid O’Reilly ( Emma Lahana ) , who ’s suffering from the injury of having apparently died during the first season . In the final moments we saw of O’Reilly last time , she was emerging from the swamp after having been exposed to both the Lightforce and Darkforce and then being shoot down , meaning that it ’s only a matter of time before she gets ahold of her own newfound powers andbecomes Mayhem .
Cloak & Dagger does n’t seem to be too awful concerned with rushing to get to that gunpoint in its heroes ’ story , though , and that ’s likely going to end up being for the best .
