Busy Philipps Reveals What Amy Poehler Told Her Before Playing ‘Totally Different’ Mrs. George

Busy Philippsreceived moral support from herMean Girlsmom predecessorAmy Poehlerbefore taking on Mrs. George.

Flash forward to two decades later, Poehler had some words of guidance for her fellow comedian.

When asked if she talked to Poehler about the performance ahead of filming or if she decided to take her own approach, Philipps admitted the ladies “saw each other,” but she “couldn’t remember if we talked about it.”

“Which is so embarrassing, but I think that the understanding was just that it was gonna be totally different anyway, and we’re all friends,” she says, referring toTina Fey, who wrote and starred in the original film as the beloved high school teacher Ms. Norbury.

Philipps also confesses, “I’m such a huge fan of the original, and her performance.” The actress adds that she dressed as Poehler’sMean Girlscharacter for Halloween “a few years ago.”

TheCougar Towntalent walked the carpet with her 15-year-old daughterBirdieas her date. The pair posed for pictures on the red carpet before taking their seats.

Philipps tells PEOPLE that she doesn’t think her children see her as a “cool mom,” because she doesn’t try to be friends with them.

“I think I’m cool, but my kids don’t think I’m cool. And I’m aware of that. I also think I’m very clear on the fact thatI’m their mother and not their friend, so that definitely makes me uncool.”

Her daughter,Cricket, 10, whom she shares with ex Marc Silverstein, was not present forthe star-studded event.

Lindsay Lohan, who played lead Cady Heron in the original 2004 film, surprised fans on the carpet. Fey, 53, who returns to star in the musical, was also at the premiere. New stars includedChristopher Briney,Reneé RappandAngourie Rice.

Megan Thee Stallionwas also in attendance as she and Rapp, 23, collaborated on the single “Not My Fault” for the movie.

The music video is packed withMean Girlreferences.

In the track, Megan, 28, dubs herself the “Black Regina George” as she emulates one of the character’s most memorable looks from the film — a white tank top with two large holes revealing a purple bra.

The musical remake arrives in theaters on Jan. 12.
