Here ’s Apple ’s response to the now officially - acknowledgediPhone 4 antenna reception problems .

grip any nomadic earpiece will result in some attenuation of its antenna public presentation , with certain post being worse than others depending on the placement of the antenna . This is a fact of life for every wireless phone . If you ever go through this on your iPhone 4 , nullify gripping it in the low unexpended box in a way that covers both sides of the black strip in the metal band , or simply use one of many available cause .
In essence , do n’t hold it that way . Or , practice a case . Both jolly horrible answer to what is evidently a hardware problem . intend they likely ca n’t desex this with a software package update , or else Apple ’s assertion would have included an item about their engineers make on the issue , and saying there will be a fix soon . Are they going to give out free case so users can have their phone in the way that finger natural ? Like every other phone ? belike not .
This is a change in their attitude from just yesterday , where Steve Jobs personally responded to Reader Lucas saying that “ it ’s not a big issue . ” I do n’t see how an number that was reproduced by just about all our staff , and many ( not all , but many ) people on the net , is not a big issue . But seemingly Apple tally , which is why they changed their public bank line to what they ’ve just issue .
He also emailed Reader Matt back to begin with today with this response :
You are in a borderline cubicle surface area . It has nothing to do with the earphone .
Reader Aram also submits this screenshot of his alleged conversation with Steve Jobs from a bit later in the 24-hour interval ( today ) . If the e-mail is legit , it demonstrate the variety in attitude from “ it ’s not a bad issue ” to “ it is an issue , but just do n’t hold it like that . ”

Update : Reader Adam remind us of thisFaceTime video made by Apple . When the great unwashed in that video are carry their telephone vertically , they ’re oblige it in the untimely elbow room . You recognize , the room that kills reception . But when they ’re holding it vertically , they ’re queerly defy it with the left hand on the top of the headphone and not the bottom . So that it ’s more probable their script will get in the elbow room of the camera . Weird that they ’re control it that way .
