Here is a pad of paper . A Surface Pro 3 , to be exact . I ’ve never really wanted a Surface Pro 3 , but Windows 10 is making me reconsider . get me show you why .
mightily now , this Surface Pro 3 has a pretty messy desktop . Those apps are just strew all over the place . Not terrible if you ’re using a computer mouse and keyboard , but could be a major bother with the touch screen alone .
But ! Rip the Surface Pro 3 off that keyboard cover , and Continuum kicks in . Up kill a pledge notice asking you if you need to switch to tablet musical mode .
Bam ! You ’re instantly await at a full - screen app alternatively of a bunch of windows .
And all your other open apps are still flop there in the taskbar . What ’s more , all those taskbar buttons get a lilliputian bit tumid and more finger - friendly too .
Swipe in from the left , and those antecedently open apps are all there waiting for you .
draw one to the left …
… and it ’ll ask you if you want to pin one of your remain undetermined apps on the right field . Easy as that .
you may even have “ modern ” Window Store apps and legacy apps like Paint go side by side .
Swipe in from the rightfulness for the notifications and set menus , and you’re able to switch between tab and screen background modes anytime . But hey , that ’s eldritch . No berth to adjust the cover brightness . Not even if you urge that Display icon or the All preferences menu .
I ’ll just require Cortana . Ah , there we go . ( Or at least we will in a future build . )
Back in desktop modality , I do n’t need to scroll my shiner cursor right smart over to the edge of the screen or even remember how to Alt - Tab : There ’s a handy clit for switching between apps .
Or , if I ’ve arrest a compatible trackpad , I can even just swipe up , leave , or good with three fingers to swap between plan .
Another ready to hand button for notifications if you ’re using a black eye and keyboard .
The Start Screen is overnice and heavy if you want it to be , and defaults to that in lozenge mode .
But if you want a small Start Menu , it ’s mightily here as well .
Cortana pull up in all sort of information I might like without me even asking , much like Google Now .
And I can ask Cortana to run a universal search . She ’s always listening for me to say “ Hey , Cortana . ” She can also post intact dictated e-mail , but I could n’t render that in this build .
Jury ’s out for now , but I call back I ’m really go to care Windows 10 . It feels thoughtful , like it was made for human beings . I have to consort with Kelsey : It might seem like Windows 10 is going back to basics , but it also feels like a vast step forward .
