We still do n’t really have it off that much about Rogue One , even though it ’s only a few calendar month away , and we recognize even less about Jyn Erso ’s mystic chronicle . However , new info from the Rogue One prequel novel has just confirmed we ’ll be learning some very interesting thing about her kinsperson before the movie releases .
As part of today’smerchandise - unveiling extravaganza , a Modern synopsis has been released for James Luceno ’s Catalyst , a novel sic prior to the events of Rogue One , and it ’s chip in us confirmation of just who Jyn ’s beginner , Galen — take on by Mads Mikkelsen — really is :
warfare is shoot down the galaxy apart . For years the Republic and the Separatists have battled across the stars , each build more and more deadly applied science in an attempt to win the warfare . As a member of Chancellor Palpatine ’s top confidential Death Star project , Orson Krennic is dictated to develop a superweapon before their enemy can . And an older friend of Krennic ’s , the brainy scientist Galen Erso , could be the keystone .
Galen ’s energy - sharpen enquiry has captured the care of both Krennic and his foes , making the scientist a crucial instrument in the galactic difference . But after Krennic rescues Galen , his wife , Lyra , and their young daughter , Jyn , from Separatist kidnapper , the Erso family is profoundly in Krennic ’s debt . Krennic then offer Galen an extraordinary chance : to stay his scientific studies with every resource put dead at his administration . While Galen and Lyra consider that his vitality research will be used purely in altruistic direction , Krennic has other program that will finally make the Death Star a reality . Trapped in their benefactor ’s tightening grasp , the Ersos must untangle Krennic ’s WWW of trick to make unnecessary themselves and the wandflower itself .
So yes , as many have expected pretty much since Mikkelsen talk the beans thathe played Jyn ’s forefather , Galen Erso did indeed function on the Death Star superweapon — but not completely willingly .
The interesting add-on here is not just a reference of Lyra Erso as Jyn ’s female parent ( a name first heard in casting calls , and usurp as the name of Felicity Jones ’ character — so perhaps Lyra may make an appearing in the plastic film after all ) , but also the fact that Krennic and Galen Erso were old admirer before the Death Star project tore their friendship aside .
Suddenly , Jyn ’s quest to take down the Empire ’s biggest arm has gotten a lot more personal . Catalyst : A Rogue One Novel is due for freeing November 15th .
