Little can actually be guaranteed to survive the high - speed wave wall and pommel current of air of a tsunami — but this house will at least put up a damn full display .
Designed by Dan Nelson of Designs Northwest Architects , this buildinghas become known as theTsunami House . It ’s anatomical structure has been carefully created to withstand 7.8 scale earthquakes and 85 mph lateral malarky , as well as the flooding that comes with the territory .
That was achieved by positioning the two vital living story nine feet above the primer coat , so the main part of the house stands on massive support columns , reinforced by blade frame . gap in that theoretical account are then filled with looking glass doors that close up like roller shutter , which look great but also break preferentially during implosion therapy , relieving effect on the building by allowing water to hang through . Essentially , they take one for the team .

They also materialize , though , to make the priming story experience like an average way , as controvert to redundant space . In fact , that ground floor — also get it on ominously as the ‘ flood way ’ and pictured above — is very much operational . It ’s decorated a lot like any other stylish living space , expect each and every item within it is certified waterproof so they wo n’t be ruined by floodwaters .
The family is located in Camano Island , WA — which isno stranger to tsunamis — and some of its elements look coiffe to be used elsewhere , including New Jersey in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy . Hopefully , though , the planetary house ’s abilities will never be sincerely put to the trial run . [ HouzzviaSmithsonian ]
